Hi Total Femme,

Thanks for reading and responding to my post. I love your note! I'm doing a lot of focus with my clients around assumptions, we all make them and they are rarely ever useful. And, making the assumption that the couple belonged, created space for both of you to enjoy your event.

I can't help but wonder what they were thinking. I can imagine that despite a critical voice in your head, you were a charming host and everyone felt comfortable. That totally rocks!!

Because of your suggestion, I'm going to sneak into the post and add "Total Femme" so that it's there for future readers. Thanks!

Happy New Year,
Fresh!

Awww, what a lovely post! Thank you! (And don't forget TOTAL FEMME!)

After years of my own femme invisibility, you would have thought I would know better than to question what looked to me as a straight man/woman couple who showed up at a LGBT potluck I was part of recently: I really took myself to task about it after I caught myself doing it, and gave myself a talking to -- they could be bi, trans, questioning, but the fact that they were at the potluck meant that they belonged! How funny when I learned later that they actually *were* a straight couple who had gotten their potlucks confused (they thought they were at the one for parents with young children), but anyway, it made me really think about the questions you ask at the end of your post!

What a rich vision for the lives of Fresh and Jen! I wish I could point my finger to a spot on the map and make it so. Alas, all I can do is toss a few twigs on the fire you've lit, hoping it helps feed the flame in some small way.
- Part of what you're looking for is the illusive small, progressive town filled with nature and good neighbors. As you say, you could have found it in Maine. New England--with it's agrarian roots, history of the 'commons', etc.--has those towns in abundance whereas the west--with it's basis in the extraction economies of lumbering and mining, etc.--rarely does.
- Fairfax? Elk? and in the easterly direction Grass Valley and Murphys (neither of which are commuting distance to SF)
- Your vision unfolds in the cradle of community: the neighbors you wave to, the two-four on the porch, the front room filled with 10. Have you investigated co-housing options?
- I hear so many people (myself included) wondering where that queer, creative community that is balanced with nature. Wondering where is that town that we could all move to and transform. Maybe I'm just layering my vision atop yours here, but have you thought of convening a think tank of others who shared that interest to see what might be possible?
- Very much hoping your vision becomes even more real than the richness it already is.
